Our Learning Journey
7 weeks of building, testing, failing, and improving — here’s our story!

📅 Innovation Project — 7-Week Sprint
From a simple idea to a real working kit!
Researched the problem — visited the UBC Museum of Anthropology, watched virtual field trips, and talked to archaeology experts. This is where we discovered that students only looked at exhibits for 12 seconds on average!
Built our very first prototype — a cardboard box filled with sand! It was rough, it leaked everywhere, but it worked well enough to test the core idea. We learned so much from this first attempt!
Fixed the V1 problems — stronger box, sealed edges so the sand wouldn’t spill, and better artifact placement. The kit was starting to look like a real product!
Shared our prototype with Prof. Jennifer Kramer (UBC) and Xinyi Zhao (SFU). Their feedback was incredibly helpful — they suggested realistic soil layers, a classification game, and a proper artifact booklet. We improved V2 into a much better version!
Matthew led our pilot test comparing Group A (Unearthed) vs Group B (regular lesson). The results were amazing — Group A stayed focused for 42 minutes vs 18 minutes, and scored 38% higher on the quiz!
Finished the full kit, built this website with the AI artifact scanner, and prepared our FLL presentation. From a leaky cardboard box to a complete learning system in just 7 weeks. This is V3!
🔁 Robot Design — Engineering Loop
We use the same 3-step loop every time we need to improve our robot!
Ask & Imagine
Define the problem clearly. What isn’t working? What do we want to achieve? Brainstorm all possible solutions — no idea is too wild!
Plan & Create
Pick the best idea and build it! Design on paper first, then build with LEGO, then write the code. Work as a team — everyone helps!
Test & Improve
Run 10 tests and log every result! Find out what failed and why — then go back to Step 1 and make it better. Repeat until it works!
💭 Ask & Imagine → 🔨 Plan & Create → 🧪 Test & Improve → 🔁 repeat!

🏆 After Provincials — We Kept Going!
Even after the competition ended, we kept upgrading our robot and learning new things!
Post-Provincials Upgrades
“Real engineers never stop improving. Even after the competition, we kept learning and making our robot better — because that’s what engineers do!”
